To solve a quadratic equation by factoring: 
1. Start with the equation in the form 

2. Factor the left hand side 

3. Set each factor equal to zero

4. Solve to determine the roots 

In your case you have to find the largest value GCF
(greatest common factor) that can be factored from each of the elements of the expression
